Snapshots from Zurich

A few highlights from my (first) visit to Zurich. Hopefully it won’t be the last. A stop at Schwarzenbach…

…for three types of ginger (China, Fiji, and Thailand), pounds of the sweetest apricots, and enough tonka beans to last me a lifetime (been grating them into warm cashew milk and hot chocolate). This is my kind of shopping ^-^

Across the street to Conditorei Schober…

…a seat upstairs…

…ready to eat…

…custard cherry tarts…

…and hot chocolate with an extra order of whipped cream on the side.

Checking in at the beautiful Baur au Lac

…afternoon tea meetings…

…dinner for two at Pavillon…

…potatoes and truffles…

…top right, a croissant-like pastry infused with saffron.

I’ve been waiting years to have La Gruyère double cream ever since this post. At last! Two quenelles over meringue. Berries on the side. Decadent, whipped. And the crunch of meringues! A most perfect pair. I had double cream daily during this trip. I regret not eating it at every single meal.

In the center, a tonka bean bon bon.

Crêpes for breakfast.

Confiserie Sprüngli…

…for pistachio and chocolate macarons, pistachio and tonka bean chocolates.

A stop at Chäs Vreneli…

…for Vacherin Mont d’Or, Jersey Blue, and Nonnenstolz from Bern.

We devoured it all at midnight along with a double order of room service fries. Couldn’t have asked for a better night.

Afternoon tea, in-room.

A meaty affair at Rive Gauche…

…and more importantly,La Gruyère double cream!

This time the cream was tucked under the meringue.

A visit to Confiserie Honold…

…for pistachio-almond nougat, laced with honey. And a pair of Lotte’s Best (tonka bean nougat with feuilletine and fleur de sel).

Early morning before heading to St. Moritz. More in the next post ^-^
