Lunch for two ^_^

My life in Honolulu is very different from my life in NYC.

But one thing remains consistent: a good lunch. Sometimes it means cooking at home. Sometimes that means dining out. But a good, leisurely lunch will be had either way.

Today we’re at Inaba on King Street (

This is mom’s order of kake soba…

…with a bowl of tuna, quail egg, and anchovies over rice. One of the daily specials (which I hope they will repeat).

This is my battera gozen. Such a pretty sight! I love all the colors and little dishes.

Zaru soba…soba-yu comes at the end of the meal.

Up close with battera, a pressed sushi of seaweed (transparent) laid over marinated saba. In NYC I like for this type of sushi. Happy weekend!

Hi Shane! So sorry! I checked the blog on another computer and all photos seem to be loading…could it be that it's just taking awhile?

Hi Kathy! Love your blog, I first found you via Serious Eats. My husband and I are going to Honolulu on Tuesday, staying at the Halekulani. Where is the best place to get good, healthy food in that area? We are going for a professional conference, and so will probably have a lot of heavy food. Are there any good salad bars, or even markets with fresh vegetables? We'll be renting a car, so we're not stuck just in the vicinity of the hotel.

Anon – thanks so much for your comment! I shared your question on a brand new post – https://www.kathyylchan.com/2013/04/question-healthy-eating-in-honolulu.html – hope you find it helpful! Safe travels to Hawaii, enjoy the Halekulani (it is one of my favorite hotels on the island!!), and eat well ^_^
