There is little more I love than long, leisurely lunches.
Especially those taken on a weekday. So thank you to Amy and Dominique for a lovely meal at the opulent Brasserie Pushkin today…I am completely loaded with dessert but somehow even more energized.
A round of appetizers to start. Dainty salmon pelminis, hot borscht with shortribs, and a dish of sea scallops and trout crudo (pictured) before moving on to the Pushkin’s signature “Pojarsky,” Beef Stroganoff, and sides of buckwheat and mushrooms.
And then it was time for dessert!
Isn’t it always time for dessert?
First, this Hazelnut Meringue Dome outfitted in gold-rimmed apple chips. Crack the meringue open and sink your spoon into the cinnamon ice cream and caramel-apple coulis. Saffron-apple marmalade to circle and squares of gelée.
The “Medovichok” next. A layered Russian cake of dulce de leche ice cream and honey. Complete with chocolate wafers. I wish you could have seen the smoke! So theatrical…
…and everything comes with gold. Including this Lemon Cheesecake raspberries and strawberry gelée. A little tower and twist of raspberry and lemon sorbet.
And finally, Profiteroles on a base of praline-coriander ganache. Filled with vanilla ice cream, silky chocolate-lime sauce poured tableside. A pot of tea for everyone (see the silver tea pots in the fourth photo from top). Gunpowder, peppermint, and earl grey.
Almost felt like Friday for a minute.
