Bouchon’s Bouchon

Have you tried the Bouchons from Bouchon Bakery? These cork-shaped sweets have been around since the start of the bakery, and they’re still my single favorite item from Bouchon. We buy them six at a time and they’re often gone by the end of the day. One here, one there…you know how it goes. It’s a brownie, only intensified, studded with chocolate chips and bearing all the benefits of a crunchy corner cut. Bouchon means cork in French, and that’s where the name comes from. People have replicated this recipe at home: here, here and here. For a shortcut they even have a mix, but I’m quite content visiting the bakery. We like to leave bouchon baking to the professionals.

I once lived above a guy who was a pastry chef at Bouchon. He was very cute, and always stopped by for a little flirtation and some freshly baked (!!) Bouchons. Soon after, I moved and got married, but always think of him (or the ridiculously delicious– and still warm– Bouchons!) fondly. ;)

I love these – no matter what "new" items I get at the Columbus Circle Bouchon I almost always get the bouchons too!
