Happy Friday! I write the ‘Sugar Rush’ column + other sweet stuff for Serious Eats. We’re all about cookies, cakes, éclair, and frozen treats this week. Knock yourself out ;)
Sugar Rush: Éclairs at Molly’s Cupcakes. This is not a cupcake – it is an éclair baked in the shape of a cupcake. So cool, oui? It’s filled with a creamy vanilla pudding, topped off in chocolate. So hard to not love. The cupcakes here are just as good, and they have a free sprinkles bar – more on that next week.
Sweet Finds: Elegant & English Biscuits for Tea. I almost like the name as much as the biscuits themselves! They have four different flavors but the Ginger & Lemon combination is my favorite. Crunchy and buttery with just enough restraint. Very fall appropriate, with a cup of tea on the side of course.
Sugar Rush: Peppermint Chip Gelato at Otto. What’s not to like about Otto right? Pastas, cheese plates, perfectly composed salads. Amazing bartenders. Gelato to cap it all off. My favorite restaurant gelato in the city. And they sell it in pints. Heaven indeed!
Sugar Rush: Sorbet at Xocolatti. It’s a chocolate shop (the owner is only 23, sheesh ;) and I’ve written about their truffles before. But come by this new Soho store for a scoop of sorbet or gelato which is given the same quality treatment as the chocolates.
Sugar Rush: Oatmeal Cookies at LIC Market. Right off the E, M, or 7 train in Long Island City. Huge cookie, only $1.75, chewy in the middle and lots and lots of oats. Sweet and honest. Don’t forget to pair with their housemade lemonade, iced and tart.
Sugar Rush: Chocolate Olive Oil Loaf at Abraço. You remember the original olive oil version right? Well this is the chocolate sister. Awesome crunchy top, dense, tender-crumbed interior. The original is my favorite, but this is a fun break from the “ordinary.”
