Honolulu | Choco le’a

I wrote about Choco le’a for Honolulu Magazine last week…file this company under enchanting people and places (right alongside Wistaria Tea House and Del Posto).

Choco le’a is a Honolulu-based chocolate company owned by uncle and niece, Colins Kawai and Erin Kanno Uehara. They didn’t know they were related until after they started working together, how crazy/awesome is that?

They recently moved into a brand new kitchen around the corner from Morning Glass and Bangkok Chef in Manoa.

No retail sales here, but you can find a small selection of the truffles at LMS Boutique (pictured above) which is located next door to the kitchen…

…or join the monthly Club Choco le’a. Your best bet is to place catering orders…that’s how to get the freshest truffles and customized flavors. Possibilities are endless.

Flavors include fresh mochi with chi chi dango from Nisshodo …

  …intense triple chocolate truffles…

…a cheesecake truffle with cheesecake from Otto Cake in Kaimuki…

…and lychee liquor truffles o_O

Collins made haupia truffles the day I visited…literally melt-in-your-mouth, super ono. They were working on 6,000 piece order for Larry Ellison/Oracle, every piece made by hand.

I’ve got my eyes on the earl grey, apple pie, and ginger truffles. Can’t wait to return ^_^

Aloha Kathy,Anela, a reader on my Tasty Island Hawaii food blog (you can easily find it with Google; I don’t want to use URLs here) pointed me over to this post, and I must say, nice, nice site! I love how clean and contemporary of a look it has. I FEEL like I’m in a luxurious virtual place! Anyhow, anela wants me to also review these Choco Lea treats, and I must say after seeing this post, I shall! Mahalo! Pomai

Hi Pomai! Thanks for your comment and kind words! :) I’ve been a longtime reader of Tasty Island (since the start!), so it is wonderful to hear from you :) Definitely check out Choco Le’a – amazing people and chocolates (tell Erin and Colins I say ‘hi’). The haupia and fresh mochi are my two favorites, though you can’t go wrong with any of them.
