Hearing about a new afternoon tea service in NYC gets me over the top giddy. I can’t help but do a little dance at my desk, hooray, hooray, afternoon tea!, and then rush out to celebrate. We have about 25 afternoon tea options in NYC…not too bad, though you’d think there would be more. At least we are on the right path.
François Payard recently started doing afternoon tea at his FP Patisserie flagship on 3rd Ave/74th St. Tea is $24 per person and served in the back room of the salon de thé. If you just want a small snack (or a plate of macarons ;) you can sit along the bar in the front room. It’s a great solo spot on the UES.
On to the food! Three tea sandwiches each: smoked salmon on multigrain, mozzarella-tomato-basil, and tuna and tomato on brioche.
The scones are giant, muffin-like and studded with pecans. Tender with a loose crumb, served with thick whipped cream (no Devonshire or clotted) and an excellent apricot marmalade (am getting a jar of this to take home).
Mini pastries including pistachio, raspberry-lemon, and lilikoi/passionfruit tarts. They resemble the ones we had during tea at The Carlyle…though significantly better. And for a balance, a layered chocolate cake and coffee buttercream creation. We’ll be back ^_^
