NYC | Radiance Tea House & Books

How pretty is this new location Radiance Tea House & Books? The original 55th St and 7th Ave. location is my go-to midtown spot when I want to wander off for a pot of tea and some peace and quiet. And a few months ago, the owner opened a second location on 50th St and 3rd Ave. Like the original, it’s part-restaurant, cafe, and bookstore. All the books are centered around tea and afternoon tea (super cool!! no other place in NYC does this) in addition to Chinese medicine and wellness.

This location is just as serene and feels so un-midtown with an easy, unhurried pace. Today’s lunch with Victoria and Mary started with a pitcher of Three Flowers  – iced oolong with honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, rose, and honey.

Har gao for the table…

 …and steamed edamame dumplings.

We shared mushroom spring rolls stuffed with celery, carrots, water chestnuts, and cilantro…

…Hong Kong-style fried fish fillets…

…and black pepper beef with white and purple pearl onions.

Mango (they also make a coconut version) pudding for dessert…

…and iced tea to-go. This is Sweet Elixir, black tea with rose buds, lemon and honey. They have an extensive iced tea menu, and I’m eying Ginger Milk Tea (black tea with grated ginger, brown sugar and milk) and Phoenix Blossom (oolong with hawberry, plum, and osmanthus) for our next visit ^_^

P.S. They also offer a formal afternoon tea…more on this soon!
