Don’t know what happened. It was like I came back to NYC and all I wanted to eat was ice cream and gelato. So I did!
There was that ice cream sundae feast at Sugar & Plumm, a stroll to the Otto gelato cart in Washington Square Park, an afternoon with Shoko at the new OddFellows Ice Cream (pictured above). One scoop of cornbread and another of buttermilk blueberry-honey. Jacques Torres hosted an ice cream social…and I took full advantage of the toppings bar. Yesterday, Phyllis introduced me to the wonders of earl grey gelato at La Lantera (the garden room is beautiful).
But the best scoop this week? Rice/rizo gelato from Dolce Gelateria. I walked past this West Village gelateria Tuesday around midnight. The owner, Salvatore was inside. Lights on, watching over a fellow re-painting the walls. He said wait here! And quickly returned with a scoop of my all-time favorite rice gelato.
He and his business partner recently split. Salvatore got to keep the original location at 75 7th Ave S. but had to change the name. So what was once L’arte del Gelato is now Dolce Gelateria. His partner kept the Chelsea Market location and the original name. If we had to pick sides? I am team Salvatore all the way :)
