First 24 hours back in NYC involved a preview of the new SOMM doc (go see it!), dinner at Molyvos (complete with an excellent list of all Greek wines), lunch at Snack Taverna (so good to see you, Diana :), a visit to Press Tea, and…lots of dessert! Amazing how much you can do in a day.
The Back Room of Sugar & Plumm on Cornelia Street opened today and I joined Alex for a sugarfest. We started with three orders of ebelskivers. Impossible to pick just one! First, Apple Caramel stuffed with apple compote, topped with streusel, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.
Second, Berry Jam with housemade jam and sugared almonds. Topped with vanilla anglaise.
And third, the Candy Shop. Rainbow sprinkles, m&m’s, gummy drops, whipped cream and a surprise filling of “candy man’s choice.”
Then we had this gluten-free chocolate cookie made with hazelnut flour. They also have a crème brûlée cookie which I’ll try next time!
Do you know what a clodhopper is? Neither did I. They are single bite clusters of crushed graham crackers rolled in chocolate. Love the name.
Then we ate ice cream sundaes! We share the Mint Brownie with mint chocolate chip (thin flakes, no worries about cracking into frozen chocolate chunks), brownie squares, peppermint patties, and plenty of whipped cream and hot fudge.
To finish, the Summer Berry Pie sundae with raspberry swirled into vanilla ice cream, housemade berry jam (same one used in the ebelskivers), lemon curd, and crumbled shortbread. Way to celebrate a rainy Friday afternoon. So happy to back in the city!!
