Honolulu’s Halekulani Hotel recently asked me to contribute a story to Halekulani Living, their quarterly lifestyle and in-hotel magazine. I was delighted to not only because they serve one of the here and

Did you know Hawaii’i is the only place in the US where you can grow chocolate or vanilla?

We happen to have the perfect climate and environment to grow both, and with the drop of sugar and pineapple production, many predict chocolate and vanilla will be the future of Hawai’i cash crops. I hope you’ll read it if you stay at the Halekulani in the next few months (they recently finished renovations and the hotel is looking gorgeous).

P.S. All the photos are by Twain Newhart. The story is also available in Japanese for guests. It looks much more beautiful than English, no? ;)

Sorry, this isn't about vanilla or chocolate or even tea at Halekulani Hotel. I'm just so amazed at how you've turned your passion into a career. Good job!

Hi Kathy, Wow, it didn't dawn on me but now that you've mentioned it, Hawaii being able to grow chocolate and vanilla makes sense! Congratulations on the article!
