Honolulu, Hawai’i: Nanzan Giro Giro

We’re heading back to Hawai’i for the next few posts. There was much I didn’t finish writing about on my list visit, and truth be told, it’s the Hawai’i posts that make me happiest. Nanzan Giro Giro opened near Ala Moana last year, and I visited for dinner with Farida (the designer of these amazing fur bags) one evening. 30 seats around the counter of an open kitchen. No menu, just 7-courses for $50, plus $8 for dessert and matcha, offerings change monthly. The restaurant reminds me of Kajitsu in NYC (Kajitsu posts here and 1st Course: Ikura and Lotus Root Chawan Mushi

2nd Course: Uni and Ahi

3rd Course: Mahi Mahi

4th Course: Monchong

5th Course: Duck

6th Course: Lotus, Hijiki, and Fried Tofu

7th Course: Ochazuke

A little tasting of three different sweets. Clockwise from the top: fresh banana crepe, an avocado cream macaron, and strawberry warabi mochi, kinako roasted meringue, and housemade nama chocolate all tucked into a little dish.

Matcha to finish…

…and then it’s back out into the night.
