I’ve been on an uni kick for the past few months…craving it non-stop. Buttery tongues straight up or served as sushi. On Sunday we stopped at Niko for dinner. It’s right by our apartment, and despite all the hype/pretension that surrounded Niko when it first opened, it’s proven to be a solid neighborhood sushi spot. Seats at the bar, and orders of Uni, Hamachi, Kinme Dai, Salmon, and Sea Bream.
That’s the King Crab Roll in the back, and a Big Eye Tuna Roll towards the front…my two favorite rolls off the menu. I really just wanted a dinner of nothing but uni (endless orders!) but Pierre gently suggested moderation…
…that is until our shared order of Tokyo Crispy Chicken arrived. He devoured 90% of this plate in an easy minute. Piping hot with savory crisp skin and all dark meat inside. No need to dip in the spicy mayo, just a squeeze of fresh lemon is perfection.
And then it was off to the 8:20pm showing of Jiro Dreams of Sushi at the IFC. If you haven’t seen it yet, go. Here’s the trailer. And then you’ll be craving uni like crazy.
