…with this Banana Cream Tart, served atop rum-laced caramel and a scoop of salted cashew ice cream. Gramercy Tavern is one of our favorite date spots in the city mainly because it has just the right mix of elegant and casual. No reservations needed for the tavern room, two seats at the bar is the way to go. They used to offer <a href="http://static.squarespace.com/static/51895797e4b07dc9727307ce/518957d3e4b04dec96da1667/5189584be4b04dec96da26e9/1291175321000/#img cocktails are my weakness here. Especially when sitting at the bar.
The menu changes often and on our visit last week, dinner started with warm Roasted Oysters. They arrived laced in housemade hot sauce and on a bed of seaweed. The bartender warned us not to eat the seaweed – it’s edible but not something you’d want to eat plain. Apparently many diners have tried, heh.
Next up, Octopus Cappelletti, love the slightly charred tentacles. Grilled radicchio, fennel and lobster sauce to complete. Two extra slices of bread to soak up all that sauce, leave nothing to waste!
And because we’d rather not have two of the same dishes, we order one four-course menu, then add dishes from the a la carte menu. Salads are a good bet – Sunchoke and Feta with honey-lemon dressing. For the main, Flounder with spaghetti squash, walnuts and sherry. I couldn’t convince Pierre to partake in a cheese course, so we’ll have to return very soon. Their Gramercy Tavern
