Tuesday, sunset cocktails at the Halekulani Hotel with Noelle.
They’re all decked out for the holiday this month, wreaths and Christmas tree twirls…
…all festive, sophisticated cheer. I can’t quite translate in words the gentle breeze and plush couches. The high ceilings that open to the palm tree-lined garden and beach, lazy wooden fans and easy sense of peace. You’ll have to come see for yourself.
Walk closer to the ocean and turn left. That’s the House Without a Key, a dreamy spot to relax with good cocktails and watch the sun go down. With a bit of luck you’ll catch that bare flash of green just before it disappears into the ocean.
The best seats are outside, facing the water, but everyone was moved inside because of the rain. No worries, we’ll be back another night to catch perfect ocean views.
Here we are, a table for two. Just in time for live Hawaiian music and dancing. Tonight it was Brook Lee, a local girl and former Miss Universe.
Drinks? Yes, please. A Mai Tai each – Halekulani’s signature cocktail topped with sugar cane, an orchid and fresh mint. You can even download their recipe here.
The sun went down and it was time for Coconut Cake. Fluffy with cool custard tucked between layers, and shredded coconut flakes rolled over the whole cake. Entirely successful in setting off coconut cake cravings…such things can only be satisfied in Hawaii (with two, three exceptions!) I better work fast while I’m here
