One last hurrah for tomatoes at Gotham Bar and Grill. Their $25 prix fixe lunch is a deal no doubt. And it’s only three blocks from the apartment – perfect excuse for bi-monthly lunches with Phyllis. Mostly suits and business deals at the tables, regulars and single diners along the bar. And frequently busy but always with a gentle calm.
Warm ciabatta rolls and butter at the table. Cherry Tomato Bruschetta to start, complete with pesto, pecorino romano, aioli, and a white balsamic vinaigrette.
Save room for Chili-Rubbed Skirt Steak. Rare with grilled squash, black beans, rice, chimichurri sauce. I often order steak when dining out because we never cook it at home. On cooler days, look for Linguine and Wild Mushrooms, decked out in a velvety cream sauce, fresh herbs and truffle oil. Ciabatta is for cleaning the plate ;)
The $25 lunch used to be for three-courses, but now its two-courses and you need to add $7 for dessert. Not as good a deal as before, but still an amazing value. Finish on the Gotham Chocolate Cake or Fig Mousse Cake, a dance of caramelized figs, almond brittle, and almond nougatine. The Chocolate Cake is accompanied by a quenelle of ice cream, flavors changing frequently. Put this on the top of your list if the daily ice cream flavor happens to be Chocolate-Caramel!
