NYC: Del Frisco’s Grille

A million thanks to Allan for today’s wonderful meal. Del Frisco’s Grille opened in Rockefeller Center early this year, and man that place is bustling with business and suits galore. It’s been years since I’ve worked in midtown and I sometimes miss the rush, rush energy of this area. But it’s not every Wednesday you start lunch before noon with a quartet of Cheesesteak Eggrolls and honey mustard…

…and chase that with cold-weather appropriate Truffled Mac & Cheese. Baked in a cast iron dish, split between the three of us. Every bite is laced with crisp bread crumbs, the little pasta shells al dente and completely coated in cream and cheese.

But those are only the appetizers! From there, Loren and I split a 16oz Prime Rib-Eye down the middle, medium-rare with a gorgeous char and “Chopped Garbage Salad,” in which there was literally a bit of everything. The plate was nearly the size of a table, deep with lettuce, tomato, garbanzos, eggs, artichokes, salami, provolone and pepperoni. Creamy basil dressing to tie it all together. Nabbed some of Allan’s crisp fries, a side to his Pastrami & Swiss Reuben, and now that was a serious lunch.

P.S. On the way home, I ran into Alec Baldwin in front of La Maison du Chocolat, heh. He was holding a football, just finished shooting a scene from 30 Rock. I don’t have celebrity crushes…but if I just had to pick one, Alec Bladwin is first on the list ;)
