Chai for the Morning

A little cup of hot chai before jetting off for the day. I once attempted to make my own from scratch and well…never again (until I find an easier method). For now I’m delighted with the “slow brew” chai from Tipu’s Chai. They make instant, decaf, and concentrate versions, but the slow brew is my favorite. Steep in hot water and whole milk.

I used to get individual bags from Dean & Deluca’s, but the four-pack set online is a better deal. Protect from moisture (they keep well in the fridge) and share with friends. I’ve yet to find someone that turns down an offer of hot chai. Especially in this weather. Sometimes I even grate in fresh ginger. The slow, spicy burn makes it truly amazing ^_^

    I make my chai with 20 black peppercorns20 cloves10 cardamom pods3 chunks of ginger (a few centimetres each chunk)3 or 4 pieces of cinnamonBoil it with a few litres of water, let to boil for about a while and that's that. I like the recipe because it's very vague, and with those basic amounts, nothing goes wrong! :)

    Hi Kim! Thanks for sharing your recipe!! I love that it's so basic and straightforward. Do you just store in the fridge, then warm and add the milk/dairy part when ready to drink?

    Yes – I find those ingredients make 2 litres of chai easily, so I tend to make one batch a week then keep it in the fridge. If I add milk, I use regular cows milk or rice milk, but I think I should try some evaporated milk next…luxurious!
