NYC: A Sweet Summer View + Brioche and Eggs

It’s one of those rare holiday weekends that actually feel like a holiday. Amen to that!

Greg came for breakfast on Saturday and brought beautiful Ladurée macarons from his holiday in London. Grilled portobello mushrooms and garlic-laced burgers were the highlight of a boozy Saturday afternoon rooftop barbecue in Williamsburg. A sweet summer view. Justin and Luke just moved to the city, aka many more excuses to go out for gorgeous meals. Lunch at Ciano followed by a full afternoon of processo at their new apartment (Justin: I am counting on you to host afternoon tea parties there!!) Sunday lunch at the Breslin with morning cocktails, sucking pig hash, fried peanut and banana sandwiches, steak and eggs, and a perfectly done lamb burger for Pierre.

Today. Wake up late to fresh squeezed orange juice. Sunny side eggs and toasted brioche. Cracked black pepper and sea salt. It’s a shame Tuesday isn’t a holiday as well.

Prosecco? hahaha! We went up to the North Shore for the Waialua farmers' market and Kahuku papayas, fresh corn and Baker Dude bread. Also all-fruit popsicles – 2 flavors: strawberry-banana and papaya-banana – cool on what felt like 90 degrees! The same fellow sells his aunty's pickles; we got our fave chili sauce and green bean relish to try. Nice fella! And pinakbet for lunch at Haleiwa Beach Park, where we saw sea turtles feeding and little boys playing soccer. So chill! After: turnovers from Paalaa Kai Bakery for breakfast the next day.

Oh goodness Soos, you have me drooling! What I would give for those turnovers, and even just to see fresh Kahuku papayas and local pickles in person. Hawai'i feels so (too!) far away right now. Can't wait to be home for Christmas ^_^
