A 2004 Tea Party

Memories of a sunny Honolulu afternoon. This photo was taken Summer 2004 when our family lived by Sandy Beach. Scones, tea sandwiches, iced tea (it was hot day!), and Noelle’s lychee sorbet to finish. It’s raining in NYC today but I’m already planning for a tea party in the city. Unfortunate I can’t take advantage of lush gardens, with the beach just yards away. No avocado trees, plumerias and hibiscus flowers all around, but I’ll surely make do with the city grit. Happy Monday.

Speaking of Hawaiian tea, you should definitely try the Makai Black at Samovar, actual tea grown in Hawai'i!Hand processed, entirely unbroken leaves of the finest quality. It's amazing, brilliant, etc. Best tea I've ever tried! It has a sweet, roasted fruit sort of taste, utterly without bitterness or astringency even with long steep times.Great blog btw, been reading it for years!

Hi Anon – thanks for your comment! :) The Makai Black sounds amazing…I haven't tried it but it is definitely on my list. Not sure when I'll be in SF next to visit Samovar but will see if I can mail order online…thanks for the tip!
