Don't Know What This Is Called...

...but I can most certainly tell you that it is delicious. And cannot be purchased anywhere in this city. Zubair's mom made this Pakistani sweet of supple silky noodles cooked down to a pudding with cream, sugar and a fragrant air of rosewater. Chopped dates and almonds for crunch. Served hot, served chilled. Either way, I am in heaven ^_^

hi there Kathy.

I am guessing Zubair' Mum cooked lacha shemai, a type of vermicelli which is bought fried in ghee/clarified butter. It is soaked in a reduced syrup of milk, sugar, clove-cinnamon-cardamom, rose/pandan water; & garnished with raisins, saffron strands, almond flakes or pistachios. We usu. have it served during eid-ul-fitr. My eldest aunt makes a killer version with condensed milk.

OOo thank you for the tip! I've been trying to figure out what the dish's name was...that sounds like it. It was SO DELICIOUS! ^_^

My mom, who is Indian, makes this dish and calls it Kheer or Payasam.
