Boston, Part II: Flour Bakery

Apologies for the lack of posts! :/ My family just flew back to Hawai’i yesterday morning, so I’m getting my life re-organized again…I took a “mini vacation” along with them, hehe.

This will be a short post as I’ve got to run off again. But for now, photos from Flour Bakery in Boston! :D

I first learned about the bakery via Carey’s Serious Eats post, where she spoke very highly of the sttiiicckky buns! They were unfortunately out of the buns by the time we arrived in the late afternoon, but that was okee doke because we totally made do with…

…Chocolate-Banana Bread Pudding!! Custardy and gooey, served chilled with chunks of bananas folded into the batter.

And a slice of Apple Spice Cake for fun. Mom and I devoured these in the hotel then went to meet my dad and sister for dinner :)

Happy Thursday ^_^

I'm going to Boston tomorrow and want to stop by Flour Bakery. Is it worth the trip? By the way, reading your blog is my morning ritual. Thanks for making my mornings less dreadful. ;o)

flour is pretty good, but you should really make your way to bread & chocolate bakery in newtonville (15 minutes outside of boston proper). http://www.breadnchocolate.com/

Absolutely worth it! I really like the chocolate cupcakes as well. I had one yesterday since I live 2 blocks from it. You cannot over estimate the deliciousness of their baked goods. You can actually call in the morning and reserve a sticky bun for later in the day. Kind of ridiculous right but they sell out that fast 617-267-4300.

Hey Helen! It's definitely worth the trip if you stop by in the morning (sometime before noon)…I loved the bread pudding, but the apple cake was just alright. I'd be curious to see what you think of the sticky bun if you give it a try! :DHey Anon!OO thanks for the tip – I wish I knew earlier! ^_^ Will put it on my list for the next Boston trip! :DHey Jason!Man you're lucky to live so close ^_^ That's a good tip! I was kinda bummed out about missing the sticky bun, but it was expected given how late we got there :)

I first learned about Flour Bakery on the Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay. However I didn't get to visit it on my Boston trip! Now I need to. That Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding looks so good. And their sticky buns looked fantastic on TV. Yummmm….

the last time i had flour's chocolate banana bread pudding, it was overwhelmingly sweet and a bit off. i don't know the chocolate was a little too chalky. one of my favorite south end places is the south end buttery. their website doesn't do them justice, but they have great baked goods, food and beverages.http://www.southendbuttery.com/site/

Hey Kathy,I'm thinking of hitting Otto for brunch this weekend (haven't been there). What would you recommend? I heard that some dishes could be 'salty'. What's your take? THanx!

Hey Kat!It was delicious! Nothing ever beats Kakaako Kitchen though ;)Hey Eattraveleat! There were a lot of other pretty good looking sweets…esp the cookies and tarts…I will return :)Hey Southender! Thanks for the tip! I'm sure I'll be going back to Boston sometime in the next year…it will be on my go-to list ^_^Steph!Aww neato! I guess we gotta go back when I (and Shann!) come visit!! ^_^Hey Gar!Don't leave without GELATO! That is the most important thing to remember. I love the cured meats (top right section of the menu)…the lardo, prosciutto, mortadella..and any specials. Love the pastas (esp the carbonara), and the pizza (the egg one is great, as is the clam). For salads, the cheese sformato (a sort of cheese flan/custard) is crazy good. :D enjoy! I'd love to hear your feedback on the meal! ^_^

Hey,Do you like your sandwich buttered or just dry toasted? Just curious. I liked mine dry, but chef often buttered mine. :(
