Stopped by for the closing day of Amai Tea & Bake House. It's a bummer to see another neighborhood spot go, but at least they went out in style! I've been in a few times this week, and each visit was packed with regulars stocking up on their favourite tea blends, cupcakes, and a very lovely steamed caramel cake.
Today's afternoon snack involved a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter buttercream...
...brownies...
...and cup of iced Golden Oolong tea.Best of luck to Kelli on her next venture, wherever it takes her ^_^

I had this place on my "places to try" list but I guess I will have to just drool over your photos :) sorry to see them go!
How long was it open, was it simply economics they shutdown?
The food hospitality industry is such a very difficult biz to survive & thrive. And that was before this repression hit. Yet, countless joints open, and close, each year.
This really is sad. Those matcha cupcakes were excellent.
hmmm, this is another place I knew nothing about, and now it's too late!
I live right around the corner and only realized this morning that they were closed when I went to pick up a little muffin and a cup of tea. I was so sad to see the papered-over windows and the little sign saying they have shut down. I didn't go there all the time, but probably about once a month and more often in the summer. My favorite items were their fig and granola muffins and their peach muffins. They were the definite stand outs -- by far the best muffins I have ever had. They were very light and fluffy and a nice small size that was perfect for a light breakfast. My favorite cookies were the white tea and strawberry, the lemongrass and ginger, and the earl grey tea. They would also make delicious fresh quiches with vegetables form the nearby Union Square greenmarket. The neighbourhood is definitely poorer for this place shutting its doors. I really hope they open up somewhere else and can make a business plan that works. It's clearly only the business side that needs work as the baking was really great!!!!
